Abstract
Insulating oil in distribution transformers is used as liquid insulation material and cooling winding. Distribution transformer oil from non-renewable petroleum minerals which is difficult to degrade has an impact on environmental pollution if it is unused or disposed of. This study uses corn oil from renewable natural resources for a mixture of petroleum mineral oil. The test material was made of samples from mineral transformer oil mixed with corn oil with different composition ratios, namely samples MJ0 (0: 100%); MJ20 (20: 80%); MJ40 (40: 60%); and MJ60 (60: 40%). The samples were tested for high voltage breakdown, viscosity, specific gravity and refractive index. The test results show that the mineral transformer oil mixed with corn oil to ≥40% slightly decreased in insulation strength with a voltage breakdown of 30.66 kV/2.5 mm (MJ0) to 20.93 kV/2.5 mm. Viscosity, specific gravity and refractive index showed an increase with the addition of a mixture of corn oil in mineral oil.
