Abstract

Fe-6.5wt.%Si ribbons were directly produced from the melt, using the rapid quenching technique of chillblock melt spinning. The effects of process parameters, wheel material, ambient gas and wheel surface velocity on the ribbon formation were investigated to establish the ribbon production process. The microstructures, textures and core losses of the ribbon produced were examined to determine the relationship between the ribbon thickness and these properties.
