Abstract
: Stress is a non-specific response of the body to all demands, both internal and external. It can be a positive or a negative response. Sources of stress for medical students are interpersonal, intrapersonal, academic, and environmental problems. Individuals who have stress can experience insomnia. Insomnia can be experienced by medical students. Insomnia is a lack of quality sleep that can be caused by difficulty getting into sleep, often waking up at night and having trouble getting back to sleep, waking up early, and not sleeping well. Stress and sleep disturbances can affect student’s academic success. This research aims to determine the relationship between stress levels and the incidence of insomnia in students of the medical faculty of Baiturrahmah University Class of 2017. This research is descriptive analytic with a cross sectional study design. The sample were students of the Faculty of Medicine, Baiturahmah University class of 2017 that was 71 people with consecutive sampling technique. It was found that there was a relationship between stress and the incidence of insomnia in students of the Faculty of Medicine, Baiturrahmah University Padang, class of 2017 with a p value of 0.007. This is because students have more burdens compared to other generations.
