Abstract

Cities are unique living entities that evolve and require care to thrive. Earth observation of the urban environment is therefore essential to keep a watchful eye on their condition. In-situ measurements are also needed to provide details that cannot be easily derived from remotely sensed imagery. Green infrastructure and the ecosystem services they provide play an important role for the wellbeing of city populations and provide resilience against the effects of climate change. EO is essential for mapping the relevant details to produce information on which to base healthy city evolution.
