Abstract

Sickle cell disease is an inherited disorder characterized by sickleshaped red blood cells under conditions of low oxygenation. This leads to complications in circulation and many organ systems. The problems encountered by growing children and their families are complicated and affect every aspect of life. The multidisciplinary team is best able to work with families toward a goal of prevention and optimal growth and development.
