Abstract

The objective of this work was to know the benefits that volunteering brings to secondary education and the improvements that it can produce in soft skills. A narrative review of the scientific literature has been carried out, extracting articles in following databases: Dialnet, Scopus, Google Scholar, Researchgate and Microsoft Academic. The results show an image about the current situation of volunteering, to recognize the service-learning methodology as an ideal tool for students to build meaningful learning, and to obtain a wider knowledge about soft skills. The bibliographic search allowed to configure a series of methodological proposals that aid the educational guidance departments of the schools to undertake educational activities and tasks in the classroom to present and work around the field of volunteering with young people who are finishing their studies in secondary education. In conclusions, it should be noted that working on volunteering issues with young people is considered to have a positive impact on their personal, moral, social, academic and work development, while increasing their involvement in the environment and the feeling of bond with the community.
