Abstract

The high-transition-temperature superconducting oxides YBa2Cu3O7−x, YbBa2Cu3O7−x, SmBa2Cu3-O7−x, GdBa2(Cu0.96Fe0.04)3O7−x, and GdBa2(Cu0.92Fe0.08)3O7−x (0<x<0.5) have been found to exhibit a common, unusual but characteristic field ion microscope image at low temperatures. This type of image has been attributed to inhomogeneous field evaporation, field ionization or both, and results in parallel rows of preferentially imaged atoms.
