Abstract

ABSTRACT Taxonomic review of Korean Polistes (Polistella) is given. Integrated analyses of morphology and DNA barcode reveal the occurrence of five species. Among them, Polistes (Polistella) diakonovi currently known from Russian Far East and the Korean Peninsula is degraded as a subspecies of Polistes (Polistella) mandarinus, i.e., Polistes (Polistella) mandarinus diakonovi stat. nov. This subspecies and the nominotypical subspecies are allopatric and easily distinguished by colouration. A new species, Polistes (Polistella) daehanicus sp. nov., which much resembles P. mandarinus, is described. Annotated taxonomy of the Polistes (Polistella) occurring in Korea including a determination key and descriptions complemented with selective digital images is provided. http://www.zoobank.org/urn:lsid:zoobank.org:act:C910D445-0E99-4EAC-9D11-C696F5189447
