Abstract
Part I of this paper, which appeared in the last issue of AENJ, outlined the development of trauma systems in New South Wales (NSW) and discussed the evolution of trauma nursing in this state. Christine Allsopp and Patricia McDougall were recognised as the first trauma nurses in Australia, pioneering the role for Australian nurses (Nocera, 2003).
In this paper, the second in the series, the evolution and development of the regional trauma nurse coordinator role is described. How the role links users of trauma services throughout an area health service are discussed.
