Abstract

The high efficiency requirements for space TWTs can be addressed by envelop tracking. In the new concept we describe here the beam current is commanded by the instantaneous envelop power of the modulated signal to be amplified. New technologies of cold cathodes could enable such current modulation in the future. Here we assess the benefits of envelop tracking concept for different kinds of modulation scheme.
