Abstract

ABSTRACT We consider optical pulse propagation in cubic-quintic nonlinear media and analyze the dynamics of pulse compression within the framework of variational approach. Based on a potential model we find effective pulse width for stable propagation. We see that a pulse propagating in cubic media gets compressed due to quintic nonlinearity.
