Impacted permanent maxillary central incisor in paediatric patient : Diagnosis, treatment, consequences

Abstract

Odontomas are commonly encountered benign odontogenic tumours. They are broadly classified as complex and compound odontoma. This paper describes a case of compound odontomas in paediatric patient that remained undiagnosed because of asymptomatic nature. This case was reported to the dental clinic for missing upper front tooth and compromised aesthetics. A conservative surgical approach was followed to remove odontoma. This paper also describes the rare consequence, i.e., transformation of benign odontoma to a malignant lesion, that could have led to a more complicated clinical condition if left undiagnosed and/ or untreated. Concerning the consequences, it is advised that an early diagnosis will allow the adoption of less complex treatment and better prognosis. Key Words : Odontoma ,Central Incisor ,Malignant lesion
