Firstly, applications of augmented reality and the hardware challenges associated with them are discussed. Next, an analysis of two important hardware components - global positioning system (GPS) and battery performance is presented, both in the capacity of AR applications. Abstract

Mobile-based augmented reality (AR) systems are occupying consumer markets at a fast rate. Mobile-based AR applications are successful owing to the ease of access and good hardware that our smartphones have. However, with the increasing demand for applications, the AR systems need to be accurate and energy-efficient. State of the art hardware specifications of our smartphones allows us to perform a variety of tasks, including video screening, navigation, and browsing.
