Issues and directions of blends in Korean

Abstract

In this study, studies related to blends are examined and their achievements, significance, limitations are discussed. Blends have been of interest in research of neologism and word-formation because they have been actively created and used in recent years, as well as there are significant differences in formation, interpretation, and change between blends and traditional complex words. Accordingly, it is necessary to deal with the framework of Korean morphology by summarizing the differences in views from the emergence of various terms and concepts. We focuses on the concept and scope of blends, issues on shape determination when forming blends, the status and changes of components, the method and data, and the morphological status of blends.
