Abstract
This article explores the second and last suppression of the Mexican Tribunal of the Holy Office in 1820. Our aim is to demonstrate that, contrary to what happened in Spain, the inquisitors of Mexico had the opportunity to negotiate with the government an attainable suppression, which resulted in a smooth transit with certain benefits to their interests. This ensured the survival of the inquisitorial archive and kept latent the possibility of the Tribunal being reestablished or replaced by another institution that would assume similar functions. Based on the documentation generated during the seizure of property, we also offer an idea of the condition of the Tribunal in its last days of existence.
