Analisis Peran Komisi Pemilihan Umum (KPU) dalam Partisipasi Politik Masyarakat di Pilkada serta Meminimalisir Golput

Abstract

The level of public political participation in exercising their voting rights in the Pilkada is still very low to determine the success of democracy in Indonesia. This is indicated by the high number of abstentions, abstentions are present as a form of public apathy in Indonesian politics. The low level of public political participation is influenced by various factors, one of which is the lack of public political awareness. The General Election Commission (KPU) exists as an institution that can raise public political awareness with its role as an agent of political socialization and education. In addition, the role of the KPU in providing simulations and accessibility makes it easier for the public to participate in using their voices in the Pilkada. The type of research carried out is descriptive research because in this study a description of the role of the KPU in increasing political participation and minimizing abstentions. This research uses the literature study method. The data collection technique is done through secondary data with observations and analysis of various related studies in the form of relevant scientific articles. The results show that the KPU holds a very important role in increasing public political participation in the Pilkada and acts as an agent that minimizes the abstention chain that is carried out by the community as a form of apathy. KPU has a role in increasing neutrality, independence, and institutional integrity, conducting political socialization, and political education, simulating the election process and providing accessibility to the election process.
