Wald-type measure of departure from symmetry for square contingency tables with nominal categories

Abstract

For square contingency tables with nominal categories, Tomizawa (8) and Tomizawa, Seo and Yamamoto (9) considered power-divergence-type measure to represent the degree of departure from symmetry. This paper pro- poses another measure to represent the degree of departure from symmetry. The proposed measure is defined by using the Matusita distance (5), (6), which is the true distance measure. The proposed measure would be useful for com- paring the degree of departure from symmetry in several tables. Some examples are given.
