Abstract
During the Italian Renaissance, primarily in Florence but also more broadly in Tuscany and elsewhere, painted wooden trays (deschi da parto), as well as painted wooden bowls (tafferie da parto), were used to encourage, celebrate, and commemorate childbirth.
