The End of Abstraction? The Triumph of Abstraction? A Prospective Dilemma

ABSTRACT:Chaos and the automaton are the two figures that we can distinguish at the horizon of our historical moment. The pandemic collapse has been the chaotic effect of the force of the virus, a concretion of biological matter, jeopardising the abstract order of capitalism. But it has simultaneously been the trigger of further abstraction: digital communication and financial support to an already impoverished society.RÉSUMÉ:Le chaos et l’automate sont les deux figures qui se dessinent à l’horizon de notre conjoncture historique. L’effondrement dû à la pandémie est l’effet chaotique de la force du virus, concrétion de matière vivante qui met en danger l’ordre abstrait du capitalisme. Mais il est simultanément le déclencheur d’une autre abstraction : la communication numérique et le soutien financier apporté à une société déjà appauvrie.
