Abstract
Subsurface military operations differ tremendously from operations on the surface. The support of planning and execution processes of such subsurface operations is the primary scope of the research project NIKE of the Austrian Armed Forces in close cooperation with the Montanuniversität Leoben’s “Zentrum am Berg”. To merge data from building information modeling and functionalities of virtual reality-based 3D visualisation is one important aspect of the NIKE project. Thus 3D visualisation methods translate complex spatial situations to virtual reality scenes that are easy to comprehend and support a successful mission accomplishment.
