Abstract
Abstract Portfolios provide a means of collecting together materials in an organised way that can help the portfolio creator understand the materials better. This article describes a lecture-based geology module designed to help students create a portfolio of lecture notes, annotated reading and summaries with the aim of improving their early understanding of geology as well as improving their study skills and engagement with their home department.
