Arabic Influences in the Spoken Hebrew of Emile Habibi

Abstract

Abstract:The article examines the Arabic influence on the spoken Hebrew of the writer Emile Habibi, focusing on both the lexical and syntactical effects. The article includes background information on the status of Hebrew among Israeli Arabs and on the linguistic contact between Arabic and Hebrew. Methodologically, the article contributes to the teaching of the general topic, "The linguistic contact between Hebrew and Arabic in the state of Israel" as it presents a broad background to the status of Hebrew language in Israeli Arab society. The article also contributes specifically to teaching the topic, "bilingualism in Israeli Arab society."
