Abstract

This paper briefly outlines proposals for the seabed mining of rock phosphate deposits on the Chatham Rise, some 240 nautical miles offshore and in ∼ 400 m water depth. An outline of the proposed mining method is presented, along with some of the key issues that arise with the proposal.
