Abstract

How can the return of reactionary forms of nationalism in Europe be thwarted? Th eir rise, unprecedented since the Second World War, has left liberal parties in a stupor. Meanwhile socialism, which until recently provided the basis for the progressive camp, is being shaken to its core like seldom before in its history. Th e three studies brought together in this book seek to reexamine the twin problems of nationalist hegemony and the crisis of socialism from their beginnings. Th is task entails redefi ning socialism in its irreducibility as regards other political doctrines and ideological currents, taking another look at the contribution of social sciences to politics, and envisaging the future of Europe through the prism of two major issues: education and ecology.
