Validation and certification of COBOL and FORTRAN compilers

Abstract

In the United States of America compiler certification is already an absolutely required prerequisite for being accepted as vendor of software and hardware by the US government. For Europe the Gesellschaft für Mathematik und Datenverarbeitung mbH (GMD) together with institutions in Great Britain and France and with the support of the Commission of the European Communities in Bruxelles aims at establishing conditions for a mutual acceptance of validation summary reports and certificates. The present paper shows the necessity of such measures and describes the procedures.
