Abstract
Some countries and regions are currently considering 5G services in the 3.5 GHz band, and the widespread deployment of 5G systems may cause interference to Fixed Satellite Service (FSS) earth stations operating in adjacent frequency bands. This paper presents an analysis for 5G base station downlinks in 3.5 GHz band when receiving adjacent FSS earth stations, derived from ITU-R recommendations for IMT and FSS. The conclusions of the study give the minimum required protection distances for coexistence deployment of 5G systems with FSS earth stations at different frequency intervals. Various feasible technical measures for inter-system coexistence protection, such as adding frequency shielding, adding filters, limiting out-of-band indicators of base stations and setting geographic protection ranges, are also proposed considering the complex scenarios of the actual system deployment.
