Reducing emulsifier monomers (REM) were prepared using dodecanol, acid anhydride and 2-dimethylaminoethyl chloride hydrochloride through a two-step reaction process. The optimum reaction temperature and ratio of chemicals were determined to achieve higher yield and purity of REM products. The product purity was above 95% as determined by gas chromatography. The structure of the products was confirmed by infrared spectroscopy (IR) and proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR) spectroscopy.
