Bose-Einstein condensates in one-dimensional optical lattices: bandgap structure and solitons

Abstract

We present a theory of the band-gap spectrum and nonlinear localization of a Bose-Einstein condensate in 1D optical lattices and superlattices. The theory extends beyond the usual single-band and tight-binding approximations.
