Abstract

T COVID-19 pandemic over the past two years has necessitated a significant change in our traditional approach to diabetes research, the structured care of people with diabetes and our efforts to prevent diabetes. Some research studies have had to be paused because of the difficulty of arranging direct contact with those recruited to specific studies. Research related to the infection and diabetes has, however, been important in determining both risk and treatment strategies. Patients have become used to routine reviews being postponed or cancelled with specific aspects of care and monitoring having to be prioritised.1 Consultations have moved to a telephone or online format, and initiatives to improve lifestyle and risk factors for diabetes have either become virtual or put on hold.2
