Abstract
Introduction
The concept that the anti-gravitational effects typical of the aquatic exercises improve lumbar trouble is wide spread, being their recommendation often justified.
Objectives
It is intended to determine scientific evidence of the effect of hydrotherapy on the chronic lumbar pain, to define its indications and to compare its effectiveness with a therapy of out-of-the-water exercises.
Methodology
It was performed a bibliographic research on the main healthcare Data Bases (Pubmed, The Cochrane Library and PEDro) about the effects of hydrotherapy on the chronic lumbar pain. In addition, other bibliographic sources were consulted which supplied information of interest for the subject under discussion.
Results and Discussion
Limited evidence on hydrotherapy for the chronic lumbar pain. No significant differences were found between inside and outside the swimming pool therapies.
Conclusions
There is an obvious need for more studies to exactly determine the benefits of hydrotherapy for the chronic lumbar pain.
