Abstract

Light-curable materials are employed in a range of applications in the automotive and aerospace industries, and in electronics manufacturing. They can be used to create form-in-place and cure-in-place gaskets that adhere to glass, plastics, ceramics and metals – sealing complex assemblies and preventing leakage of gas or liquids. In this article, Simon Gibbs, Technical Sales Executive, UK-based Intertronics – which supplies sealants, coatings, adhesives and dispensing equipment – explains the sustainability advantages of using curing systems that are based on ultraviolet light-emitting diode (UV LED) technology rather than UV spot-curing lamps that use a mercury arc bulb.
