Abstract

This chapter reports on a study was part of a larger three to four-year longitudinal study of adolescent leadership for sustainability using social constructivist grounded theory methodology (Charmaz, 2008, 2014). The purpose of this study was to investigate how adolescents understandings of sustainability, leadership, leadership for sustainability, capabilities, attributes, leadership styles and motivational factors help shape their identity, emergence and development as leaders. This chapter reports some of the findings of this study, in particular: ‡ Adolescents understandings of leadership and leadership for sustainability and how these changed over time.
