Abstract

Optimal reactive Power Dispatch (ORPD) is a very useful mechanism for achieving an economic and secure operation of the power system. The problem is formulated as a single objective, complex non-linear, optimization problem containing different control variables to determine the optimal solution while satisfying various constraints simultaneously. A newly proposed algorithm named JAYA algorithm has been applied to the ORPD problem for minimizing the active power loss in the transmission lines and has been tested on IEEE 14 bus, IEEE 30 bus and IEEE 39 New England bus systems.
