Russia and Latin America: achievements and problems of cooperation

Abstract

. The objective of the review is to examine the book Rethinking Post-Cold War Russian-Latin American Relations. This publication has the merit of offering a new approach to Russia's relations with that region from the concept of symbolic reciprocity. Around the concept, a multidisciplinary exercise of the study of migrations, the history of political, economic and security and defense relations is carried out. The analytical effort of the historical links and the presentation of the so-called "Russian return" to the region, in the post-Cold War phase, are highlighted. In order to understand this last phase, the reviewer finds the need to offer a more exhaustive evaluation of the international context, especially the geopolitical competition, in order to characterize more precisely the acceptance or rejection of the assertive Russian policy in these countries.
