Abstract

Reconstructing spaces with lots of vegetation for the use in virtual tours is a challenging proposition for many common capture methods. Full reconstruction as a 3D-model becomes increasingly time-consuming, while volumetric scanning is prone to scanning artefacts. In this paper we present a method based on linked monoand stereo-panoramas, using as an example the botanical garden of Rostock. In addition to the basics of capture and presentation of these panoramas, we discuss how to include further multimedia content and how to guide user navigation. To ensure a high level of accessibility, we utilize current web technologies.
