Abstract
Direct electron and X-ray detectors have extraordinary imaging and analytical spectroscopy properties, which makes them most attractive for established experimental settings and the development of new experimental techniques in electron and X-ray science. This article describes the advantages of a pnCCD direct detector and compares it in brief to a conventional electron imaging camera.
