They claim that the accuracy of prescribing effective resistance training protocols is dependent on this information. This systematic review challenges that widely held belief and presents compelling evidence to the contrary. There is a direct relationship within individuals between muscular strength and performing a maximal number of repetitions with a submaximal resistance. Abstract
Many well known resistance training authors and coaches believe that it is necessary to know an individual’s actual 1RM or predicted 1RM for each specific exercise.
