CONSERVATION DELEMMAS – THE FATE OF THE TIMBER ORTHODOX CHURCH IN MIĘKISZ STARY

Abstract

Attempts to describe the fate of timber Orthodox churches in the region of the former Galicia (primarily Greek Orthodox ones) have been made for over 100 years. They were not aided in the least by the geopolitical and cultural changes that happened in this part of Europe, as well as the permanent loss of research subject matter. Already in 1989, the technical condition of the church in Miękisz Stary was bad and for the next 30 years it deteriorated significantly. The conservation project currently under preparation envisages strengthening its structure, securing polychromes and recreating the original historical environment of the church.
