Abstract
Thrombotic events are a clinically relevant complication of pregnancy and a major cause of pregnancy-related morbidity and death. After risk assessment, antithrombotic prophylaxis with parenteral anticoagulant agents can significantly reduce the manifestation of thrombotic events in pregnancy. Adequate treatment of thrombotic events in pregnancy is crucially important to prevent the progression of thrombosis and the development of pulmonary embolism. In this contribution, we focus on the assessment of the thrombotic risk in pregnancy, adequate antithrombotic prophylaxis, and treatment of pregnancy-related thrombotic events.
