These motivations are related to the characteristics of institutions. Abstract

This research analyzes the reasons why organizations go institutional. To do this, the concept of institution is analyzed and the elements that define it are described: public interest, conformity to the rules of society, and continuity in time. It also describes the reasons of institutionalization, grouping them into three categories: pressure from stakeholders, competitiveness, and ethical issues. These motivations are related to the characteristics of institutions. The main contribution of the work consists in the generation of a research framework for moving forward in the development of predictions about the behavior of institutions, promoting the advancement of the Institutional Theory.
