Abstract

The purpose of this article is to provide coaches with information on how they can benefit their athletes by becoming transformational and servant leaders while using the athlete first, winning second coaches’ philosophy. Athletes are humans; therefore, many of them want a coach who will meet their human needs such as motivation, confidence, love, care, and more. 70% of athletes believe that their coaches should be open to helping them grow mentally, physically, spiritually, intellectually, emotionally and more. This article will also provide three different scenarios to provide examples on how transformational and servant leader coaches use the athlete first, winning second philosophy to cater to the needs of their athletes.
