Abstract:In the 1970s, girls glean hickory nuts, then smash them open, while inside, their mothers cook and watch tv: seeming innocence in a context of violence and technologies of war.The universe tends toward disorder: a desk gets messier, wooden steps erode, the body aches. Amidst the process of continuous breakdown, there are moments of absurdity, beauty, small acts of love.
