Abstract
ABSTRACT The time evolution of a Gaussian wave packet travelling through a one- dimensional semiconductor based on multiple potential barriers has been explored in order to obtain the spin-based transmission, reflection, and trapping coefficients. We have used a split-step finite difference method to solve the resulting nonlinear coupled Schrodinger equations. The related behaviour of scattering properties of the system as a function of Rashba and Dresselhaus Spin–Orbit interactions, wave-packet velocity, the geometry of the barriers, and the number of neighbouring barriers have been discussed. Based on the results, it is found that by tuning the Rashba and the Dresselhaus coupling strengths, and the characteristics of the system, one can control the spin polarisation of the wave-packet and its propagation coefficients.
