Potentiometric titration curves of homo and mixed ligand complexes show the formation of different types of species at different pH and confirm the formation of mixed ligand complex. Abstract

Hydroxypyridinone and hydroxypyranone are known to be used for the treatment of iron overload by chelation therapy for a long time. Both the ligands have their own side effects when used as medicines. In the present study homo and mixed ligand complexes of both the ligands with iron were prepared and characterized by UV-visible spectrophotometry, Potentiometric study, IR spectroscopy, SEM/EDX and XRD.
