Abstract

Ravenna, half-way on an imaginary road from Rimini to Byzantium, is the place of a silent conflict between generations. This conflict has an effect on the type of citizenship, the vision of the future and social leadership. The heroic past is enhanced, but there is also the sense of a fleeting present. The family still remains a place of assessment and of structuring of social ties.
