Cygnus X-1 - the remnant of the historical supernova of 1408

Abstract

Nine records on a new star of 1408 have been gathered from Chinese historical books. A careful examination of these records leads one to interpret confidently the event as a supernova. Its recorded position strongly suggests that the X-ray source Cygnus X-1 is the remnant of this supernova.
