Abstract

This paper extends previous work on the Sequential Phase-Shifted Model Predictive Control (SPS-MPC) strategy into a Single-Phase Five-Level Flying Capacitor Converter (SP-FL-FCC). The use of SPS-MPC in an FL-FCC is not as straightforward as it first seems. Therefore, a sequential average model based on more than one active control input is derived. The proposed SPS-MPC strategy achieves a fixed switching frequency, which is beneficial regarding of semiconductor loss distribution, and also to ensure that a high-bandwidth is achieved that compares favorably to the finite-control-set MPC case.
