Abstract

Optical control plane has demonstrated benefits ➔ Applied to numerous SONET/SDH networks ➔ Limited by existing SONET/SDH operations infrastructure and cost Future extensions will support new transport network technologies ➔ OTN, packet and WSON ➔ OTN is being defined/deployed now ➔ Packet (esp. MPLS-TP) and WSON still pending further work Refinements being added to control plane itself ➔ ASON extensions to support transport vs. IP requirements ➔ PCE to support multi-domain and scalability
