Abstract
The synthetic procedures used to prepare VPI-8 are outlined in this report. VPI-8 was crystallized from reaction mixtures containing Li+, organic cations and zincosilicates. The effects of the concentrations of Li+, organic cations and zinc as well as the type of organic cation on the preparation of VPI-8 were investigated. There appeared to be an optimal reaction mixture composition for the fast crystallization of VPI-8. Additionally, the absence of organic cations and/or zinc inhibited the formation of VPI-8. VPI-8 could be crystallized with Na+ rather than Li+ when the syntheses were seeded or at low hydroxide concentrations, but the organic and/or zinc component must not be removed from the reaction mixture.
