Collection development: United Nations material

Abstract

This article examines some problems of collection development for primary United Nations material and complementary secondary works: it outlines the purposes of collecting such material in various types of libraries; surveys general characteristics of collection development in relation to UN material and special problems of collecting that material; sketches the nature of various collection levels and suggests types of material and specific titles appropriate for each level; explores distribution patterns of UN documents and publications and the special problems of depository libraries; gives information about various methods of acquisition and suggests selection tools and sources.
